“Embrace equality” is the motto of this year’s International Women’s Day. First celebrated in 1911, 8 March was established as International Women’s Day in 1975. The day symbolises women’s struggle for equal working conditions and the right to vote. But as the years go by, it remains an important moment to promote women’s equality everywhere.
This day is dedicated to all women! It encourages us to celebrate our achievements, to inform and raise awareness of our rights. It reminds us that there is still a way to go towards women’s equality and invites us to support charities that are concerned with the protection and rights of women.
In Greece, although the equality of two friends is constitutionally enshrined as a fundamental value, in reality there is a big gap between the existing conditions. The Gender Equality Index is a tool created by the European Institute for Gender Equality that takes into account parameters such as work, money, knowledge, power, violence and others. Unfortunately, Greece is in last place in Europe, while Sweden is in first place.
So we understand that there is a lot of room for improvement in our country so that we can talk about gender equality.
W.I.N. HELLAS – International Women’s Support is a non-profit organization founded in Greece in September 2006 by Mrs. Manda Tsagia – Papadakou. Its purpose is to promote the work of the organization. W.I.N. HELLAS is the elimination of violence against women. It has a variety of activities in both the prevention and treatment of violence against women and the promotion of gender equality. It has a network of scientific collaborators, including psychologists, mental health counsellors, lawyers, etc., in order to offer appropriate support to women who suffer any form of violence.
